Ameli and ADHD: reimbursements, ALD and Mon Soutien Psy
How to activate your ameli.fr account, register a treating doctor, understand the care pathway, request an ALD, use Mon Soutien Psy and stop losing paper care forms when you have an ADHD brain.
Why Ameli is the poor relation of your admin
Most ADHD adults we’ve read report the same thing: Ameli flies under the radar. You remember the CAF because it sends you anxiety-inducing envelopes. Taxes because everyone talks about them. But Ameli? “It works by itself with the carte vitale, right?”
Not really. If you’ve never registered a treating doctor, your reimbursements are automatically reduced [2] . If you don’t track your reimbursements, you don’t see that a practitioner is billing you outside the scale. If you haven’t requested an ALD when a comorbidity would justify it, you’re paying 30% extra out of pocket on chronic care. And if you accumulate paper care forms “to send later” in a drawer, they’ll stay there for two years, until the deadline expires and you lose your money.
This guide isn’t here to make you an Ameli expert. It’s here to help you minimise the passive losses that this administrative silence costs you each year.
The concrete steps, step-by-step
1. Activate (or reactivate) your ameli.fr account
- Go to ameli.fr [1] → “Compte ameli” → “Créer un compte”.
- You’ll need your Social Security number (15 digits, on your carte vitale) + postcode + date of birth.
- An access code will be sent by mail or SMS within 24-48h.
- Activate FranceConnect to reconnect easily if you lose your credentials.
- Install the ameli mobile app: dematerialised carte vitale, real-time reimbursements, secure messaging. More reliable than the browser.
2. Register your treating doctor (the mandatory step)
Without a registered treating doctor, you’re reimbursed at 30% instead of 70% for most consultations [2] . It’s a silent loss that can represent several hundred euros per year.
- Find a GP who accepts new patients (on the ameli.fr health directory).
- At the first appointment, ask: “Will you be my treating doctor?”
- They fill in the registration form online during the consultation — no more paper Cerfa since 2018.
- It’s done. You can verify in “My information” on ameli.fr.
ADHD trap: many are afraid to call for a first appointment because “nothing’s urgent”. But the absence of a treating doctor also blocks the prescription of methylphenidate by a non-hospital psychiatrist. So it’s more urgent than it seems.
3. Track your reimbursements
- Ameli app → “Mes paiements”.
- Check at least once a month: a practitioner can wrongly bill you, an electronic transmission can fail, an act can be miscoded.
- Any incorrect reimbursement → secure messaging from your account → you’re contacted within 5 working days.
4. Use “Mon Soutien Psy” (12 reimbursed sessions)
Since 2024, you’re entitled to 12 sessions per year with a registered psychologist, without a prior prescription (2024 reform) [3] .
- Registered rate: €50 per session, reimbursed at 60% by Ameli (€30 by public insurance + the rest by your mutuelle if you have one).
- Find a registered psychologist on the monsoutienpsy.ameli.fr directory.
5. Request an ALD (Long-Term Condition)
ADHD isn’t on the ALD30 list [6] . But some frequent comorbidities are: severe recurrent depression, bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorder, epilepsy, some disabling anxiety disorders.
If one of these comorbidities is confirmed:
- Your treating doctor or specialist fills in the ALD form (Cerfa n°11626).
- They send it to the CPAM of your department (electronically or by mail).
- Time: 2 to 6 weeks depending on CPAM.
- Acceptance → 100% coverage of the registered rate for ALD-related care.
- If refused, you have 2 months to appeal to the medical commission [5] .
An ALD materially changes your daily life: no more out-of-pocket on linked consultations and medications, some medical taxis covered, impact on your MDPH procedures.
6. Paper care forms: the 48h rule
Some practitioners (osteopaths, sector 2 physios, non-carte vitale doctors) give you a paper form [1] .
- Legal deadline: 2 years to send it. In reality, for an ADHD brain: 2 hours before you forget it.
- Method: as soon as you leave the office, photo of the form + prepared stamped envelope in your bag. Slip it into the next mailbox you pass.
- Alternative: systematically ask for electronic transmission (carte vitale in the reader). You lose it less.
7. Solidarity Complementary Health (C2S)
If your income is below a ceiling (≈ €10,000/year for a single person in 2025, check the current figure) [7] , you’re entitled to a free or €1/day mutuelle.
- File to fill in from your ameli.fr account (“Demande de C2S”).
- Time: 1-2 months.
- Once granted: zero out-of-pocket on most everyday care.
ADHD-specific traps to anticipate
The 7 most frequent Ameli traps
- No registered treating doctor → silent reduction of all your reimbursements for years.
- Paper care form slipped into a drawer, found 2 years later out of time.
- Carte vitale not updated (pharmacy terminals) → reimbursement blocked.
- Non-registered psychiatrist (sector 2 or 3) → low reimbursement, huge out-of-pocket, never anticipated.
- Mon Soutien Psy confused with ADHD reimbursement → disappointment when the psychologist refuses this reason.
- ALD request refused because of incomplete form → no appeal started within 2 months.
- Ameli messaging never checked → important letters missed for months.
Strategies that work
External prostheses for adult ADHD with Ameli
- Install the ameli mobile app and activate push notifications — every reimbursement and every message comes to you passively.
- Block a monthly 15-min 'health admin' slot in your diary: open the app, check payments, read the messaging.
- Stamped pre-addressed envelopes to your CPAM, kept in your bag and at your desk: a paper care form never stays more than 24h.
- Systematically check that the practitioner does the electronic transmission (carte vitale in the reader) before leaving — 30 seconds that save you hours.
- Ask your psychiatrist if they're sector 1 (registered rate) before the first appointment — avoids nasty surprises of €120 unreimbursed.
- For Mon Soutien Psy: find a psychologist who practises both reimbursed (anxiety/depression reason) and private ADHD sessions — follow-up continuity.
- If ALD possible: explicitly ask your doctor 'I'm thinking about an ALD for [comorbidity]', bring the reports, insist if necessary.
- Make an appointment at a CPAM agency (via ameli.fr) if you're lost — an adviser will sort it out in 30 min.
