App review
Todoist — classic, robust, multi-platform task manager
One of the most mature task managers. Clean interface, multi-device sync, many integrations. Not ADHD-specific, but a solid base with the right settings.
What it is
A classic to-do list app, but well made. You capture a task in 2 seconds (keyboard shortcut or mobile app), assign it to a project, a date, a label. The app reminds you at the right time, you tick it off.
For whom
If you’re ADHD and need a simple “thought catcher” app (when you think “oh I need to call X”, you capture it in 3 seconds before forgetting), Todoist is a solid, durable choice.
ADHD-optimal setup
- Disable karma in settings (if you’re sensitive to punitive gamification).
- 3-5 projects max to start: “Personal”, “Work”, “Admin”, “Health”, “Ideas”.
- Use labels for context (@home, @work, @phone) rather than stacking projects.
- Configure Quick Add: universal keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Cmd+A on Mac).
- Today view = your only default view in the morning. Don’t stare at the ocean of tasks.
- Use reminders carefully (too many = noise).
Verdict
Not a revolution, but a reliable infrastructure over 10 years. If you need basic structure + fast capture, Todoist does the job without pretension.
Free alternative: Apple Reminders (iOS) has become very solid since iOS 17. Google Tasks is more limited but enough.
